Sarah and James: A Romantic Vineyard Wedding in Napa Valley
When Sarah and James chose a Napa Valley vineyard for their fall wedding, they created an evening of wine-country elegance that guests are still talking about.
The Love Story
Sarah, a graphic designer, and James, a software engineer, met at a mutual friend's dinner party in San Francisco. "He was terrible at small talk," Sarah laughs, "but he made me the best old fashioned I'd ever had." Three years and one trip to Italy later, James proposed on a rainy Tuesday evening in their kitchen — exactly the kind of no-fuss, intimate moment that defines their relationship.
The Venue
They chose a family-owned vineyard in Napa Valley that felt more like a home than a venue. "We wanted somewhere that felt lived-in and warm," James explains. "Not a wedding factory." The property's stone terrace, century-old olive trees, and rolling vineyard rows provided all the backdrop they needed.
The Details
The color palette was burgundy, sage green, and cream — inspired by the vineyard's own fall foliage. Sarah carried a loose bouquet of garden roses, dahlias, and wild greenery. Dinner was served family-style at long farm tables: braised short ribs, harvest salads, wood-fired bread, and, of course, wine from the vineyard itself.
The Ceremony
Sarah's college professor officiated. Both wrote their own vows — Sarah's were poetic, James's were funny and earnest. There wasn't a dry eye when he said, "I promise to always make you a cocktail when you've had a hard day, even when I've had a harder one."
The Advice
"Don't try to make your wedding look like someone else's Pinterest board," Sarah says. "The best parts of our wedding were the things that were just us — the menu, the music, the vows. Nobody remembers your centerpieces. They remember how they felt."
