Rachel and Mike: A COVID-Postponed Wedding Worth the Wait
After postponing twice due to COVID, Rachel and Mike finally had their dream wedding — and the wait made it even more meaningful.
The Postponement Story
Rachel and Mike got engaged in December 2019, blissfully unaware of what was coming. Their June 2020 wedding was postponed to October 2020, then again to June 2021. "Each postponement felt devastating at the time," Rachel admits. "But looking back, the delays actually made our wedding better."
Silver Linings
The extra time allowed them to save more money, refine their vision, and switch from a large hotel wedding to a smaller, more personal celebration at a family farm. "Our original plan was 250 guests in a generic ballroom. What we ended up with was 120 guests in this gorgeous outdoor setting. COVID forced us to think about what we actually wanted versus what we thought we were supposed to want."
The Wedding
On a perfect June evening, they married under a massive oak tree on Mike's grandparents' farm. The property had been in his family for three generations, and getting married there meant more than any venue ever could. String lights hung from the trees, and dinner was served at round tables scattered across the lawn.
The Emotional Weight
"After two years of uncertainty, standing there and actually saying the vows felt enormous," Mike says. "Every single person there had been through so much. When we did our first dance, I looked around and half the room was crying. Not because of us — because of everything everyone had been through to get to that moment."
Their Message
"If you're going through a postponement right now, I know it's awful. But your wedding will happen, and when it does, it will mean more than you can imagine. The waiting makes the celebration sweeter."
