Not all beaches are created equal for weddings. Consider: permit requirements, accessibility for guests, wind conditions, tide schedules, and whether the beach is public or private. Popular beach wedding destinations include Key West, San Diego, Maui, Destin, and Cannon Beach.
Wind Is Your Enemy (Plan for It)
Beach wind will destroy hairstyles, blow away programs, knock over centerpieces, and drown out your vows. Solutions: use a sound system (even a small one), weigh everything down, choose updos over loose hair, and skip loose paper anything.
Footwear Matters
Tell guests to skip the heels. Provide a sign at the ceremony entrance: "Shoes off, toes in the sand." For the wedding party, barefoot or flat sandals. Stilettos and sand don't mix.
Timing Is Everything
Schedule your ceremony 1-2 hours before sunset for the best light and the most comfortable temperature. Midday beach ceremonies are hot, harsh, and squinty.
